REBIRTH AND REVAMP: AGBADA AS YOU KNOW IT

Everything from the use of socks to choice of shoe has, at some point, been influenced by time. Its like the rising and falling of  tide; you never can tell when this happens, or how at least; one thing is certain, it surely happens.

The Agbada as we know it is one of Nigerians most revered  traditional attires, it has been and always will be. When the word ‘Agbada’ is heard, thoughts of affluence begin to whirl in the head and this is so because of the figures that have been known to always rock the Agbada. At some point in Nigeria, even now, it can still be said to be the closet substitute to suit and every other influencing ties of the western world.

Just recently, the Agbada began to gain presence. Almost every other sunday or fridays most especially, It is almost impossible to find more than a dozen persons wearing one to their religious temples as the case may be. This and many other factor led sartorial
geniuses to invent never-seen-before Agbada(s). In all of this, the one minute detail that always holds my attention is when I spot an Agbada that has its inner kaftan as a jumper (short sleeved). Normally, what I know to be a regular Agbada has a regular Kaftan (i.e A long sleeved  made to measure top and an accompanying trousers) and the big over flowing piece which is the Agbada, in its stead, you can find now, a short sleeved Kaftan and a not too overflowing Agbada and thus showing off the arms which is supposed to be, by orthodox, hidden….  Its is so amazing to look at.

Take a look at these ones (short sleeved and long sleeved ) and share your thoughts…
