HOW TO DRESS YOUR GROOMSMEN. (PART 1)

At least days, if not weeks before the wedding, the soon-to-be man and wife already know what colors to wear, what family and friends would look like, and with the help of an interior decorator or wedding planner, the color of the hall. Chiefly because I’ve never been married, I think the colors of the day are undoubtedly the bride and groom most revered colors.

I’ve looked away at footages from weddings where the bride or groom refused to heed the advice of their proposed partner on choice of color for their big day. Although many loathe the idea of their partner having a say in the issue, it often leads to a normal wedding with normal ‘sane’ colors other than a bad artist’s canvass which it always ends.
A quick run-down of the reasons why communion should precede union in this sensitive issue are:

                               i.            Some of your friends need help dressing up, you don’t want strangers on the altar.
ii.            Like I said, a color splash is only best on a canvas of an unfinished painting.
iii.            Harmony is everything, practice it on your “D” day.
Blue is key color for weddings, not only because it is a color that calms, it provides for the quickest exit from the norm of Black suit. Black suit is never the problem, except when the groom is rocking it. Everything that happens in the hall may just be mere passing of time until the photographs are revisited. For posterity, it is best to draw courage from knowing that Black trousers are always allowed for weddings.
Traditionally, blacks have been the wedding anthem here, hell, my dad wore a black suit and tie and shoes, I know this because I saw the photograph of him and 5 other James Bond(s). Now, if you are not bold enough to explore new color grounds, you can wear anything over a black trouser on your wedding day and still look sprezzatura.
GROOMSMEN

First thing to remember about the groomsmen, once there is a definite path to follow, a link between them and the groom plus the other guy with a lady who’s not his lady; you have a consensus. For example, if the groom [and the best man] is wearing an Ivory double button jacket, black bow tie, black waist coat, trousers and a matching black shoe, the groomsmen can maybe wear 2-piece black [or any other color]suits, white button downs, black bow ties, black shoes and white pocket squares. Here the similarities lies on the semblance the white button downs share with the ivory tuxedo, plus of course the pocket square provides an absolute finish. The one thing to watch out for is consistency. Anything that complements the entire outfit of the groom with any obvious duplication is what would suit the grooms.

FINAL WORDS
For the groom, wearing a nicely tailored suit or tuxedo is inevitable. As part of the big day, one of the best ways to dress the groomsmen is simply by keeping the colors solid. This provides a more classical way of handling the suit affairs of the grooms, not only does it manage keeping the groom well rested and distinct from his men, it portrays his love for details.
